Since AdAge broke the news February 15 that Facebook would be releasing Timeline for brand pages later this month, business owners using Facebook pages have been expressing their excitement, anxiety, anger, and everything in between regarding the announcement.
According to industry-wide rumors and speculation, Facebook will "officially" make an announcement at its upcoming invite-only fMC conference on February 29 in New York City (you can view the Livestream here).
Many of you have asked what our thoughts and opinions are regarding the possibility of Timeline coming to Facebook pages--and, more specifically, how will Timeline affect your tabs. Our answer? All signs point to Timeline actually enhancing tabs, making them more valuable than ever.
One can only speculate how Timeline for Facebook pages might vary from Timeline for personal profiles. That said, after a brief analysis of what Timeline for personal profiles looks like and how it works, assuming Facebook values consistency in its user experience, it appears that Timeline for Facebook will carry the same pattern of similarities and differences that the old personal profile and brand pages did.
Let me explain with a couple of visuals.
Personal profiles and the new Timeline are very, very similar in terms of how they function. There are just a few other things added to Timelines. You still have a profile image (in fact, you get two with the new Timeline cover), you still have a place to share personal info, photos, and other stuff that you do on Facebook through what I'll call "personal tabs". If you look at the actual links and content available in both the old personal profile and the new Timeline, you'll see some consistencies in where things are placed. For example...

Assuming that Facebook keeps things consistent, it makes sense that apps like Welcome tabs, promotions, contests, and other tab-based content would follow the same pattern. For example...
